Stay & Fight

My sister and I fought a lot as children and if anyone asked me now why we were always fighting, I completely have no idea but one of the biggest fights I cannot forget was about a remote control and who had the privilege to change the TV channels that evening. I had just come back from school very tired, hungry, and wanted to watch “Everybody Hates Chris”. At the time, it was my favorite TV program and I used to wait weeks to watch just an episode. Mind you, I have never been a fighter because I hate fights. I naturally run away from them as fast as I can. That evening however, I took off my worn out blue backpack, stood in front of my sister all red eyed and demanded to have that remote. I was ready to fight for that remote and I did. It was the most gruesome fight I have had. I remember grabbing a cup of milk that my aunt had just served her from school and the rest of the details are foggy but we were both drenched in milk and were both nose bleeding at the same time. Did I watch Everybody hates Chris that day? Yes, I did. I watched it with my eyes drenched in tears. Did I get a heavy punishment later? Assuredly! Will I ever forget that day? Not in a long while. That day, I felt so content because I had not given up. I am not encouraging violence today so stay with me because I am almost getting to the point.

We are always tempted to give up on what we want to do, to throw in the towel whenever we encounter a challenge or when things seem impossible to achieve. We get so uncomfortable and start getting second thoughts that maybe what we want to achieve was not meant for us or it is just not the right time to achieve it. Giving up seems like the best decision to make. Sometimes, you will even have a good reason to give up. However, giving up is not the easy way out because someone else will go ahead and achieve that same goal you thought of achieving but found challenging and gave up. The only difference will be that you gave up and did not see it through.

Not giving up means being committed, consistent and staying when things are tough or taking longer than you thought they would. Do not give up on the dreams and ideas you want to see come to life. Do not stop looking for a job or applying for different positions. Do not give up on learning something new because it is difficult. Do not give up on your friends and the people you love. Stay loyal to them in good and bad times. Whatever you do, just do not give up! Even as I write this, I still struggle with the choice to sometimes throw in the towel and give up on some of the things I want to do in my life but I keep making the decision to stay and fight.

I hope this encourages you the reader to not give up because we are all running the life race. If we all gave up and stopped, the world would be a very sad and terrible place to live in. Maybe we are the ones who will make the world a better place. Do not give up. The world is counting on you! We all need to get the kind of courage I had that evening to face all our fears and to purse what we really want in life. Take a chance, stand and refuse to barge till something changes for you this month! I pray and hope that this article reminds you of the things you do not want to give up on and also gives you the encouragement you need to stay and fight.❤

P.S: My sister is my favorite person in the world (For now!) and If you met her, you would love her to bits like I do because she is kind, patient, loving, so understanding and the most forgiving person in the world. Most of the fights we had as children were me trying to get what I wanted. Dear Eddie 😂, I love you so much and I would never ask for a better sister. I really do love you and I sometimes mention you in my prayers(Like once a year)
